The traitors

Nembhard, Bishop, and Mintz

Will project a little on R$ but won't be on thin ice doing so.

These guys are different from our other transfers as they went same level or up in program status.

Mintz, pretty much bore out his status at CU. His career at UK could generously be considered mediocre and that we were correct handing and leaving the keys with Z. Dude thought he was a star and that Creighton was holding him back, but mostly he wasn't nearly as good as he and those around him thought. Pretty lame that after healthy he decided not to return to help team to keep his RS intact.
How welcome is he back on campus and to CU fans? He's Pete Best. No one missed you and liked the replacement a helluva lot better.

Bishop is pretty similar. Made demands to coaching staff regarding how he was used but it didn't match his skillet. His replacement also far exceeded his play and ability and will be a CU legend by the time his career is over. Rode bench at UT vs starting at CU. Was the only player vocal about Mac's verbal dick stepping. He seems about equal with Mintz in that he shouldn't consider himself a Bluejay anymore and everyone is cool with that. He's Peter Gabriel being replaced by Phil Collins. Everyone liked you fine but then we liked the latter version of Genesis 10x more.

Nembhard. This one isn't written in stone yet. But unlike the other two, had zero basketball reasons to leave. Depending who we replace him with and what team does next season will likely be an important factor how people feel about him but not his Jays legacy. The elite eight is a big piece of CU hoops history. But he kind of pissed on that by leaving and the ham fisted way it was handled on his end. Could be David Lee Roth? Everyone hated him for breaking up Van Halen. But Sammy Hagar was pretty sweet replacement at the time and the first album was pretty good before it all got shitty.

Agree? Disagree? Hate the analogies? Something to kick around while we wait for our portal signings.

Coaching carousel

Sitting here waiting for selection show so figured this worth starting.

Plus! Wichita fired Brown after only three seasons. No one seemed to notice as it's gotten zero discussion on TV today.

Shux fans are divided! Half seem to want Greggggg to return.

Others think they should go after Jans (former asst with his own set of issues but also a gig in the SEC at Mississippi state).

Also mentioned: Kelvin Sampson's kid Kellen and DRock.

How the mighty have fallen.

Greatest NCAA players to never make it

Watching Timme, got me thinking, who are some of the greatest players in college basketball history, in the post-64 team era, to never make it in the league? I'm not talking about guys who flamed out due to injuries or drugs or laziness, but guys who were legit dominant in college ball, but who never had more than a cup of tea in the league bc their game simply wouldn't translate.

Some other names that popped into my head: Luke Harangody, Russ Smith, Jimmer.

Adam Morrison is on the cusp, though he may have had a longer career off the bench had he not destroyed his knee. Luka Garza is on the borderline as a guy who may become a deep-bench guy/role player.

Feedback from Ben

Q-First question is have you ever been to Louisville and what do you think of the city and the arena?
A-I’ve never been but Fred has told me a lot about the city and program since he committed here prior to coming to Creighton. It’s a historic program so their arena displays that. We haven’t been around the city much but I’ve heard it’s nice

Q-What’s the whole NCAA tournament experience been like for you. How does the experience differ from a regular road trip?
A-Well it’s obviously a much longer, but there is also an excitement and energy that makes this more special. We all know this could be our last game so we want to leave it all on the court. It’s an incredible experience and I’m happy I’m doing with my teammates

Q-How have you been able to stay engaged when seeing so little minutes?
A-Just staying to my work. Sticking to my routines and workout so I’m always at the top of my game and improving

Q-speaking of which—How has watching and playing against guards like R2 and Trey improved his game?
A-I mean competing against them has been great. Have learned alot about their game and how they fit in the system. It’s forced me to step up and show up everyday

Q-What’s the mood and excitement level of team for tomorrow? And how many times have you been told not take Princeton lightly?
A- We are all excited. No Creighton team has made the elite 8 and we think we can make history if we stay together and connected. Princeton beat two teams and one team that we know first hand how good they are in Arizona. We know we can’t take them lightly

Q-Any players that you have seen grown into a leader on this team that weren't as evident at the beginning of the year?
A-Yea definitely especially after the 6 game losing streak. Kalk has been a lot more vocal in practige and in the huddle. Trey and Baylor have also taken leadership roles and have been big in keeping the team connected

Q-What have been the greatest highlights/lowlights of this season?
A-Obviously making the sweet 16 has been a major high for us. There’s really nothing like it. And we had some hard times especially after going on that 6 game skid. We really had to come together to push eachother to be the best versions of ourselves. That skid taught us a lot about ourselves and where some of our weaknesses lie

Q-How do you feel about the NIL package he earned this year? Are u satisfied with it compared to what you here others at different schools make?
A-It was great. It’s always a blessing to get paid to play the sport you love. I know many of people in the Omaha community have contributed and I’m thankful for that

Q-Do you feel the speed of the game slowed down some?
A-I feel very comfortable with my game at this point. Speed of the game was never a huge issue but I’m in good enough shape now to compete at that level

Q-What is the specific feedback he is hearing from Coaches that he needs to improve on to get onto the court more consistently?

A-Honestly just wait my turn and keep developing on both sides of the court. Being effective off the ball has been one thing me and coach Miller have honed in on. Defense has been something I’ve had to focus on as well and has been something I think I have made strides in

Q-The Team chemistry appears, from a distance, to be really good. This would indicate that team leadership is very strong and players have great respect for each other. Would you confirm this?

A-It does. We spend alot of time with eachother and have become close on and off the court. We have the vets and the talent to accomplish alot of the goals we set prior to the szn

Q-Is it difficult for a California boy living in the Midwest?
A-It’s definitely been an adjustment. I miss my family a lot. The weather is obviously different. I’ve adjusting and I’ve enjoyed being in Omaha

That’s all for Ben for tonight. A great job by him. Much more this weekend. Thanks everyone!!

  • Poll
Hypothetical Preferred Ending of the Season

Which ending of the season would be satisfying as a fan?

  • BE Tournament Title running through UConn, MU, then X/PC and not making it out of NCAA 1st weekend

    Votes: 4 9.5%
  • Losing 1st game of BE tourney but making it to S16 of NCAA Tournament

    Votes: 38 90.5%

Just trying to gauge everyone's expectations now that a BE regular season title is gone and a BE Tourney title looks more difficult. Maybe this is a terrible poll and everyone will use the NCAA Tournament as the barometer. If so, maybe we can avoid the post-mortem talk if the Jays lose in the BE tournament?

CU Bracketology 2023

Figured we could use a thread just for potential bracket talk/projections.

Creighton’s six Quad 1 losses have come by an average of 5.3 points. Let’s be honest: Who really wants to see the Jays on a neutral court in March?
