2021 Offseason

Who the hell knows where this thread takes us. The transfer portal and coaching carousel have already gone nuts and the season isn't even over.

1. I expect Bishop to be the only returning starter.
2. Are there any notable transfers from this year's roster? Stats tell us there multiple transfers per team.
3. Is there any turnover within the coaching staff?
4. Can the staff manage the roster to be good again next season? My expectation for next year used to be for the team to be in the bubble conversation. But with the off the court controversy, TyTy's decommitment, and the diminished rolls of AOC and Jones I just hope they can be respectable next year.

I'm sure this offseason will have lots of twists and turns. Mac and staff definitely have their work cut out for them.

New B-12 Realignment rumors- 2021

CBS Sports on B-12 possible defections...both schools denying rumor, so far.

I went back 15 pages - to Dec 2016 - found no old thread, so started this one.

Creighton Basketball Offseason - What's Next?

- Assistant coaching vacancies have been filled by Ryan Miller (TCU) and Jalen Courtney-Williams (McNeese St.)
- Added 5th year transfer, Ryan Hawkins, from NWMSU, 6-7 skilled F that can stretch the floor.

Creighton's areas of biggest concern are adding some scoring in the backcourt and depth in the front court. Ryan Hawkins signing helped in adding both size and scoring.

It's no secret CU needs to replace Bishop at the 5. Currently the only true C on the roster is Kalk. We've mentioned Adem Bona as a guy they are trying to get to reclass. Here are some names CU is looking at C:
Adem Bona - 5-star, HS at Prolific Prep. Currently in 2022 class but CU working to reclass to next year.
Login to view embedded media Moussa Cisse - Former 5-star that played his Fr year at Memphis. Like Bona, his physical attributes and projections are ahead of his offensive skill set at this point in his career. Started all 28 games for NIT Champs Memphis. Shot 32.4% from the FT line.
Keyshawn Feazell - Started his career at MS State. Played last year at McNeese State. The connection is certainly new asst JCW. Avg 13 & 10 last year albeit vs pretty poor competition. Played sparingly at MSSU.

Digest and discuss. We will look at some other targets/positions in the coming days (Note: not trying to drag this out on purpose. Just trying to find some time and put some decent info before posting)

To be continued......

Was previously mentioned on the 2021 thread that Creighton is up to #6 in Rivals team rankings for 2021. It's a big class and the chances that all stay together for 3-4 years is highly unlikely. I wish Creighton was able to add a tad more experience heading into next year, but it's hard to argue this team isn't up there from a talent standpoint. I believe I mentioned during the past season that I felt like being on the bubble for the 21-22 season was my goal. That was before TyTy decommitting and Bishop transferring. With the additions of Kaluma, the new TA, Hawkins, and Feazell, I still feel like being in the bubble conversation would be a solid year.

2020-2021 Schedule.

Guess it’s not too early to start this
So Far

@Nebraska
@Kansas. Thurs. Dec 3rd.
Arizona State —November 21st (confirmed)
—Bahamas Tourney November 25-27
Duke, Wichita State, Utah, Ohio State. Texas A&M, West Virginia, Memphis
Potentially 5 top 20 teams in the field. It’s really stacked
3 buy games

With that power line up I would expect cupcakes in the other games. But because of the 20 game conference schedule by my count that only leaves 3 more games. I believe we still have Gavitt games as well. Unreal schedule

2. Best Center in CU History

Ok as we move forward here we may have to make some decisions on some players to all be on the same page when grading them on a position.
The next position is center. The only player that pops in my head here that a decision needs to be made is Wragge. Early in his career he played exclusively 4. Then 4/5 and eventually just 5. I’m inclined to say he was a 5 but I could be swayed either way.

Silas exclusively center? Gallagher a 5, Harstad a 4 correct?
Anyone have any thoughts? Any other players we need to decide on centers ( Just centers now we will get to the other positions later). Please post here and then we will begin voting on top 5 centers

Transfer DJ Carton

I wanted to create his own thread. I originally posted on the transfer thread that I highly doubted Creighton would be seriously involved in this transfer. Back when he decided to take a leave from tOSU due to "mental health" issues. I was hearing from sources he was definitely transferring and will most likely be going closer to home. The word was that Iowa was the most likely landing spot.

I assumed that was still the case. I reached back out to that same source (who covers a Big Ten school for Rivals) in the last hour and they heard from their assistant coaches that CREIGHTON IS THE MOST LIKELY LANDING SPOT FOR DJ.

I've heard that the "mental health" issues included some misbehavior and character issues. And that is why some of the other local Big Ten schools have backed off of him. I've also heard him and his mom are hoping a small private school atmosphere and being a little closer to home (about 4ish hours from Omaha. I am from and live in the Quad Cities now) will help DJ

New Series-1. Best point guard in CU history

To get us thru this period of life we are starting a best of feature for Creighton. In today’s first installment. Best point guard in Creighton history. But we have some rules to make this work—
1. Need to list five. List 1 (best) thru 5 (5th best)
2. No ties.
3. Plenty of discussion around these is welcome and encouraged

we will tally them all up and come up with a concensus when we are through. Begin posting!!!

2019 Season

I'm getting a little bored with the constant blather on the news channels about Husker football ( And Husker BB for that matter) and thought I'd start something about Creighton's upcoming season. Only two months and a week away and I'm extremely hopeful for a potentially great season for the Jays! If we start Epperson, Mintz, Ballock, Alexander and Zegarowski, we will be starting 4 players who were rated in the top 100 of one of the top rating services. That would be a first in Creighton's history that I can remember. Mintz, though not rated that high, has turned out to be a very valuable and underrated player. If Bishop starts, (because of Epperson's health or because he is playing better than Jacob) he was rated as high as 114 by Rivals. Ratings are not everything, but we have a lot of very talented players. A second unit of Bishop, Mitchell, Mahoney, Jefferson and Kelvin Jones is the best off the bench group I can remember at Creighton. I'm assuming the starters and that everyone is eligible and remains healthy, but in any case, we are loaded!!

Las Vegas Invitational Games Thread

Here is Trill’s preview.
https://creighton.rivals.com/news/tournament-preview-las-vegas-invitational

Jays are slight underdogs tonight. Creighton has played so well in these tournaments over the years. SDSU will present some problems with their length and athleticism. I’m interested in watching Malachi Flynn for them as he was someone I really wanted Creighton to land back when he visited as a transfer from Washington State. Now Z eventually came along so it all worked out but at the time I was hoping Flynn wanted to be a Jay.
