Off season and rumor thread

Ok I'm ok with rumors being posted on here. When you do just remember most are not true and if they are of a personal nature let's use good judgement. I have had people tell me they have inside info all the time but the rumors were so out there and I cant verify them from anyone one I don't post. On the other had I've heard rumors which make sense to me and I have heard rumblings of the sort. I post those here and, in at least one case, got a call from someone at CU (simply because someone on here violated our 'keep everything of inside info here and don't spread it around") that I was irresponsible in going with the "rumor" Of course a month later it was all true and was glad my sources were correct.
I guess what I'm saying here is sometimes things are true, or part or not at all Keep that in mind as we head into what could be a crazy off season.

So I have waited to post on the post by mdmist because I wanted to check around. In doing so I found out some other things I'd like to share. But again-PLEASE keep this stuff here. If you tell others who aren't on the board you not only hurt us and our enterprise here but hurt the people involved ( especially if only part of it is true) and hurt our sources who then dry up and well, then we really have nothing. So thanks for abiding by this.

As I go thru this I will say multiple sources told me which means I heard the same thing from multiple people. There will be some things I will say one source which means one person told me so I guess we all need to take that with a grain of salt. I spoke to former players, people close to the team, family members, media members and people I trust. So a pretty wide range of people, but not all of these groups spoke on all topics.

The post that mdmist put up concerning the team. At first I really wasn't sure how much of this was true. But after checking multiple sources have told me that this is not far off the base and a lot more fact than fiction. And really when you think about it a lot of that is human nature.

As far as Mo I have always thought he was selfish off the court and although he talked about the team that part of it was for the benefit of Mo. Scouts told him he had to be more of a team player. So once his injury happened that selfishness really kicked in which caused issues.

People have asked me why I think Foster is gone. Multiple sources have speculated the same thing. His answers to my questions had nothing to do with next years team and every thing to do with his future. He needs and wants money and if not NBA Europe a possibility

I always thought JP would stay but not so sure now. As someone said earlier he doesn't like school. maybe we can get into some classes he would like but I think he's gone. I personally think he is pretty immature and could use another year to work on that and his skills.

I thought, besides Khyri and Toby, I didn't feel a lot of angst over losing this game. A couple of media guys who have been in way more locker rooms than me they thought nobody cared. That's concerning. (to be fair the seniors were not in the looker room but in the presser so that could have been part of it)One source, in discussing the mental state of this team said that there is a disconnect between Jack Stark and the coaching staff. Again one person so take that as it is. I also heard there is too much beating them down rather than building them up. Also what I have always speculated on Z's playing time was confirmed by several people so I will leave it at that.

So in summary, there were probably more issues on this team than any of us knew or even thought of. I heard the words, soft and lack of toughness used a lot after the loss. I agree with what I heard earlier. That let it fly was a nice MVC phrase but if we want to be sustainable we need to be tough and recruit to toughness rather than guys that jack up 3s

NCAA Tournament

It feels good to be back dancing!

I don't mind the RI matchup. Frankly I have trouble thinking of any teams that I would love to play with this current Jays team. RI shouldn't run away from the Jays bc they are more of a physical, slower paced team. I'd rather play that style, the same way I wanted to play Providence or SH in the BE tourney.

KenPom has Jays by 3.

Big East Tourney

will start a new thread

Very little chatter for tourney week. I don't know if everyone has given up on this team. I hope not. Think of all the years we would have killed to be in position to have an NCAA bid sealed up before the conference tourney

I know many of you are disappointed with the finish but still a lot of hoop left. We can get some things done

Who's going to NYC?

state of affairs

who is more panicked right now, Mac or the hardcore fanbase? I'm exaggerating a bit below, but I thought some of the post-Mo injury issues should have their own thread:

From what I can tell, Mac is in full bunker mode right now (and to be fair to him, I’m sure Mo’s alleged sexual assault has added to his woes). Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he publicly say something early this season about injuries being the one thing that could derail his offense and his optimism about this team. Whether my memory is correct or not, he surely began to panic when it was clear that Mo was out for the season. That panic must have exploded after Marquette put up 100. Pretty much the worst possible result for that first game without Mo, because it probably confirmed for Mac his suspicion that a Mo-less squad could not just let it fly and outscore most anyone besides Nova.

Whatever happened in terms of practice and film review after that game, it was followed up with the offensive disgrace in D.C., a performance that gave all appearance of a team that had just had its confidence shattered and was trying to refocus on tightly holding on to what was left of the season. So far, that looks like the low point of the season in terms of 2 straight really, really bad efforts, but I’ve sensed ever since then that Mac has a death grip on his various security blankets and is just hoping that either Marcus can get on a roll in NYC and the NCAAs or the 3s go in at a high clip.

I see no evidence of any long-term strategy or attempt to maximize the talents of this squad. It’s all about avoiding the embarrassment of the Marquette and @Georgetown games and relying on chance. Since those games, we’re 2-0 against DePaul, 1-0 at home against a sad-looking Hoya team thanks to Marcus, and 1-3 on chance (the 3s were falling in Indy, but the hunker down efforts @ Seton Hall and against XU and PU failed).

Justin Patton

We got a call right at the beginning of Bluejay Shootaround last night from a guy asking us how likely it was that JP would go to the NBA after this season. Keep in mind that was before he went off against St. John's last night. I don't think it would be wise for Justin to go to the NBA after this season but the staff does have some concern that he could. What are you thoughts?

Overtime--BJB.com style

Bluejay Banter tonight has been cancelled because of the weather. And since no overtime is scheduled and we are all stuck in the house we thought we would do a BJB.com overtime on this thread. We will give our insights on the game and welcome yours too. We will get some comments from the coaches and have our normal features. Check back on this thread at 3:30 and we will kick it off. We will also announce the winner of the prediction contest

Local media

I'm on record that I am over the discrepancy in the local media's coverage of CU vs the fuskers. Its obscene but I am used to it. I have a high up in the OWH family member that at Thanksgiving had never heard of Banter. He is very high there and had no idea who or what Banter is and their excellent coverage. My question is do the coaches care? Do they care about stuff like this?

I mean really? WTF?

2016 Recruiting Targets

I figured since some talk about 2016 guys including Sam Hauser was starting to happen in the 2015 thread, we might as well start this one.

Each of the Jays top targets has their own thread on this board but let's assume the staff only has 1 scholarship to fill I think the main guys right now are:

Sam Hauser
Xavier Sneed
Kevin Huerter

Among others.

Now I think things change if the staff doesn't believe Marlon Stewart can play point guard. If they don't think he can then I think a PG like Breein Tyree, Bryce Aiken, Carsen Edwards, or JJ Caldwell could shoot to the top of the list of guys they want.
