Observations on College Hoops

- Matt McQuaid played 34 minutes and had 12 pts, 5 boards, and 3 assists last night vs KU. He looks to be a solid role player throughout his college career for Sparty. It would have been interesting to see how he would have fit in Mac's system.

- Ian Steere played 5 minutes in NC St.'s 105-55 win over Mt. St. Mary's.

- Duke and KU looked good.

- Providence stud Fr. AJ Reeves scored 29pts last night in a 10 point win over Siena.

- Ronnie Harrell lead his team with 33 minutes in a win over Maine. He had 18pts, 13 boards, 1 assist, 4 TOs, and 4 blocks

Random thoughts /complaining/how can we fix this thread.

Thought with the way things are going we would have a thread where we bounce ideas/theories off one another. What's wrong and how can we fix this.

My first thought is this. Why when we get one injury everything goes to hell. Other teams have injuries but seem to find a way to get thru. So let's look back. Mo goes down. We have no point guard. Martin goes down. We have no big guys (redshirt had to be pulled) Jefferson goes down. We have no one to take his place.
Instead of us saying-" ok let's try Martin at the four n Sam at the five "we never considerate it Not sure it would work but our answer is always four , guards, two point guards etc. I mean why can't we say "Jefferson out. Ok Bishops his back up so he starts". Instead we have NO back up for DJ. Our response is let's go small Because of let it fly we never recruit a 6-8 guy who's a good defender, bangs the boards. If a guy can't shoot 3's he can't play for us.
This isn't breaking news --we have a junk offense. If we make enough threes we win. If not we have no other way to win.
Plus the type of players we recruit for let it fly--are we incapable to have that player who can also defend?? If we get one we are lucky.

I get we are young. But even if these guy mature and grow as players-- with this style not sure that we won't always have to hit tons of shots and hope some guy on the other team has an off night.

There is my rant. Let's hear yours.

DePaul Game Thread

Oh yeah there is a big game tonight. Preview is up. Jays -7.5. KenPom has us by 8. We usually have our way with DePaul bc they really don't provide much resistant to the style we like to play. Stus has been going off, but I have confidence the guys won't lose him. DePaul didn't really show it the first time bc Reed and Olujobi were in foul trouble, but they can be a handful on the boards.

Providence Game Thread

https://creighton.rivals.com/news/providence-preview-20

Preview is up. Winning at Marquette on Sunday won't mean much if they can't win these last two home games where they will be decent size favorites.

Because of PC's style...I don't really like them as favorites bc they have usually struggled to score, but I think very highly of them in an underdog role.

With that being said, I'm a little uneasy of this game on Wednesday. The Friars get more than a week off to prepare and the Jays are coming off a big win.

Mid Year Transfers

With the semester now over, this is when we generally hear about mid year transfers. While I admit I've probably paid less attention this year than in the past, it seems like we aren't hearing much about kids transferring mid year this season. Anyone agree or disagree?

I would expect us to be quite active in pursuing any mid year transfer candidates since we are sitting with available scholarships. Tim or Jeremy - any word?

January Recruiting

The coaching staff was able to get out on the road this weekend with the Friday night game. Coach Mac was in Florida and Coach Lusk was in Minnesota.

2019
Tristan Enaruna - Coach Mac was checking out the priority in Florida this weekend at Montverde Academy. Coming into this past weekend. Enaruna is averaging 10.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.5 SPG. Wasatch won on Thursday, but lost their first two games of the year on Friday and Sat. Enaruna was offered by Miami after seeing him on Thursday. Enaruna is now ranked #105 according to Rivals.

2020
Ben Carlson (East Ridge) - Creighton offer and has been on campus. #53 according to Rivals. Priority by many. Minnesota, Stanford, Wisconsin really want him and have put themselves in a good position early. Lots of competition for Ben.

Kerwin Walton (Hopkins) - 6'4" #114th in nation by Rivals. Offered by Creighton this past fall. Lots of Midwest schools involved, but still early in his recruitment.

Mason Madsen (Rochester Mayo) - 6'3 doesn't hold an offer from Creighton. Has some mid-major offers.

Gabe Madsen (Rochester Mayo) - 6'5" Brother of Mason, doesn't hold an offer from Creighton. Has a Marquette offer and is looked at as the better player of the two. Is more productive and has a little better size.

2021
Kendall Brown (East Ridge) - #25 by Rivals. Creighton offered during his unofficial visit this past fall. Also plays on the same team as Ben Carlson so we will see how involved the Jays stay throughout his recruitment. Again it is early as he is only a sophomore. If he stays in the top 25ish of rankings, it would be a tough get for the Jays.
