I just wanted to summarize where we are at with Josh Primo.
- Primo has declared that he will move up into the 2020 class.
- He was very good at the NBA Basketball Without Borders event this past weekend.
- His only official visits have been to Alabama and Creighton and Primo has indicated he may decide soon which gives most the impression it is a two horse race between Bama and CU.
Some thoughts from a national recruiting perspective and some guys I trust...Andrew Slater and Jerry Meyer put in picks for Alabama on 247. Our own Corey Evans put in a Bama pick but said it wasn't based on any specific intel. Evan Daniels who you can see on FS1 and and also contributes to 247 isn't ready to put in a Bama pick yet.
- His AAU program has said the visits to Gonzaga and Ohio St. were being looked at, but at this time those are looking less and less likely. They also just said they didn't know much about what Josh would ultimately decide and that the family was still going through the process.
- Part of all the the reason there have been multiple recent interviews with Primo is from the BBall W/O Borders event. He did give an interview with a Bama recruiting website and I think that is why some are bullish on Bama.
- We have Primo's contact info, but we have been unsuccessful in multiple attempts to reach him. We did not take that as a very good sign, but Huss just said that he is over the recruiting attention so make of that what you will.
How I'm currently viewing his recruitment?
- Primo's former AAU teammate, Keon Ambrose-Hylton is committed to Bama for next year.
- Both teams play a similar style. Alabama was 22-59 from 3 in their OT loss to Auburn earlier this month!!!!!
- Both teams look to have most of their roster back for next year unless some leave early and declare for the draft (ie. Ty-Shon, Kira Lewis)
- Primo is extremely talented, but keep in mind part of the equation is projection and Primo's age works in his favor. So if fans are expecting a difference maker on next year's team with everyone back, I would just advise them to pump the breaks a bit. That would be a big expectation for a kid who will begin playing college hoops at age 17 and not turn 18 until December.
- Josh's father wasn't able to accompany him on the visit to Creighton bc of a health issue in the family. Huss mentioned that this was obviously not ideal.
To me this recruitment seems very similar to fellow Canadian, AJ Lawson's, who reclassified and committed to South Carolina. My hope would be that Creighton's play can continue to create a national buzz and that Bama has losses like last night to keep them out of the tourney so that the Jays end up with an extremely talented guard.
