In listening to Game Time today Coach Mac made a statement that the Jays were 5-4 without him and probably other than Nova no one else had a better record in the conference. I wanted to do some research on something more important--how our post MO resume stacks up against other teams we are competing for spots on the bracket with. (4-6 seed lines) so I did a little research and here is what I came up with:
These records are since Jan 15th the day before Mo got hurt. I used top 25, top 50 and top 100 as metrics since these are the ones that matter most to the committee.
Since Jan 15th--
Team Overall Rec top 25 top 50 top 100
Creighton 5-4 * 2-1 * 2-2 * 3-4
Butler 6-3 * 0-1 * 1-1 * 3-3
Xavier 5-5 * 1-3 * 2-3 * 3-5
Virginia 5-5 * 1-3 * 3-4 * 4-5
Purdue 8-1 * 1-0 * 4-0 * 7-1
Wisconsin 8-2 * 2-0 * 2-1 * 5-2
N Dame 5-5 * 1-4 * 2-4 * 3-5
Cinncy 10-1 * 1-1 * 1-1 * 1-1
So Car 6-4 * 1-1 * 1-3 * 3-4
UCLA 6-2 * 1-1 * 2-2 * 2-2
W Vrig 6-4 * 1-1 * 2-2 * 5-3
As you can see only two teams have a better record against the top 25 and top 50. Oddly enough both are from the Big 10. Which may say something about the Big 10 itself. And in the top 100 besides the two Big 10 teams only West Virginia has a winning record.
Don’t know how scientific this is but to me this shows that Creighton is on par record wise with other teams in their seed area since Mo Watson went down and should be considered fairly in the seed range (4-6) even without Watson.
